Decision first

Saying what has been decided in the opening sentence and the reasons after it, instead of building up to it. A room that hears three minutes of reasoning first spends those minutes working out what is coming, and those are minutes it does not spend on the reasoning.
How to spot it
Look at what you wrote and count the sentences before the decision appears. Anything above zero is a wait that somebody else is holding.

What it means for leadership
It is the map of the field: useful precisely because it shows that "leadership" means dozens of different, measurable things rather than a single attribute.
Practised in
The term does not stay a definition. It appears inside missions where the pattern happens in real time and you have to recognise it as it happens to you.
